The Practice Nurses run the following clinics:
Individual appointments are offered with the Practice Nurse for New Patient & Well Person examinations and may be booked at Reception between 9am - 6pm.
Please discuss your requirements with your doctor by appointment. We also offer IUD and Implant fitting/removal services. Pill checks can be with the nurse.
As arranged by your Midwife
Minor surgical procedures can be carried out at the surgery. Please arrange these with your doctor
To attend the NHS Health Check Clinic (age 16-74), ask the receptionist. There is no charge.
Foreign Travel Advice
Ask at reception at least 6-8 weeks before you travel so that your immunisation needs can be assessed and appointments booked with the Nurse at appropriate intervals. We provide a simple form for you to complete about your health and your journey.
The Practice Nurse will research your records and prepare individual advice regarding immunisations and other methods of protection against common diseases. Book your first appointment at least 6 weeks before departure, at any Nurse’s clinic.
Some vaccines and other medicines are not available on the NHS. An up-to-date list of charges is available at reception.
Patients (over five years of age) who have just registered with a doctor are invited to attend the Practice Nurse for a "New Patient Consultation".
If you have not been seen by a doctor in the last three years, and would like a "Health Assessment", please make an appointment to see the Practice Nurse.
Should be arranged with the Health Visitors.
These assessments are carried out on Tuesday afternoons: they should be arranged with the Health Visitors.
Asthma Clinics are by appointment with our asthma-trained Nurse's Michelle and Annette . You will need to bring with you your current inhalers for review.
Michelle and Annette are also trained to offer patients Spirometry testing.
Michelle and Beverly are the Practices Diabetes trained Nurses.
The Practice Diabetic Clinic is run on Thursday afternoons from 3.45 - 5.45pm. We also run Nurse-led clinics.
Blood Pressure Monitoring
We have a BP machine in a screened area in Reception which patients may use to take their own blood pressure. The printed recording can be handed to the Receptionist for entry into their clinical record.
Services which are not part of the NHS, including private insurance forms and medical examinations for Life Assurance, can be arranged with the receptionist who can tell you the fee involved. All fees are to be paid in full before any action or work will be carried out, Please allow up to 10 working days for the forms to be completed by the GP.

NHS GPs do not provide dental care. Patients are advised to register with an NHS Dentist. Dental registration needs to be renewed every fifteen months. The partners would like to endorse the use of fluoride toothpaste to prevent tooth decay. A dental helpline is available on: 0845 0508345
Mon - Fri are sit and wait allotted timings. Thursdays surgery carries on from 1645 to 1900 but is by appointment only.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6-8 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to ensure the vaccine is fully functional at time of travel.

MILITARY VETERANS TREATMENT PRIORITY PROTOCOL
The purpose of this protocol is to raise awareness of the requirements in relation to veterans and to summarise the DoH guidance on the subject.
Many conditions do not become obvious until after a veteran has left military service, therefore all GPs should be aware of the government wish to prioritise care of this nature and consider the military aspects of a condition when diagnosing and referring to secondary care.
Most Frequent Conditions.
Audiology – noise induced hearing loss. There has been a lack of compensation in the past and little understanding in relating to this problem. It is possible therefore that cases may present now which have been symptomatic for some time.
Mental Health – may present some years after military discharge.
Orthopaedic – may arise some time after discharge but be related to in-service activity.
Where a known veteran is referred, check with the patient that they are willing for the referral to show that they are a service veteran.
Where consent is given by the patient the referral can state they are a veteran, and the clinician should give a clinical opinion within the referral as to whether the condition (or request for further investigation) is likely to relate to the period of military service.
Where consent is refused by the patient the information should not be included.
The secondary care provider clinicians are responsible for prioritisation, taking into account the relative priorities of other patient groups based on clinical need.
When using Choose & Book, GPs should select the correct priority of the referral based on clinical need or clinical guidelines only. Where veteran’s details are included within the referral then the secondary care service is responsible for military prioritisation, and they will assess other demands on their limited resources based on clinical priorities.
The following Read Codes will be used for all known veterans in the practice:

History Relating to Air Force Service 13q2
These will be coded regardless of referral activity where it is known that the patient is an ex-serviceman / servicewoman.
Where a veteran considers that the arrangements for priority treatment have not been properly considered or fulfilled they are able to use the NHS Complaints Procedure to have the matter investigated.

Practice Nurse appointments offer a range of services including chronic disease clinics for Diabetes, Repiratory Disease and Heart Disease to name a few. They also provide health (well person) checks, wound dressings, suture removal, ear syringing and cervical smear tests. For 6 week checks please book a 20 minute appointment with the Specialist GP.
Tuesdays 0900-11.45. Notification will be sent to you by the Child Health Department at the hospital: Please then book an appointment with the receptionists at the surgery. Further appointments will then be made whilst you are in the clinic.
We have a GP with the specialist skills in treating Diabetics. We provide a comprehensive annual check for all patients with Diabetes. Appointments can be made with Sister Michele Weeks or Beverley Whitehouse throughout the week during normal clinic times.
Sister Michelle Weeks holds Respiratory Clinics on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
We provide a range of contraception services including: Emergency Contraception and advice.
The Doctors and Midwives provide maternity care. The Midwives hold regular Anti-natal clinics by appointment only.
This service is run by the Specialist GP's with the support of the Health Visitors who provide full development checks.
Dr Mark Scowen runs a minor operations clinic for non-cosmetic reasons. Ask your Doctor for advice.
This service is available from the Stop Smoking Counselor in the Practice. Please make an appointment with the Reception Staff.
The Practice offers Ear Syringing to all patients. Prior to booking an appointment we ask that you first try to self treat with olive oil drops for 2-3 weeks as syringing may cause Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and very occasionally perforation of the ear drum. It is very important to prepare your ears thoroughly prior to syringing to reduce the risks of complications.
Preparation: Lay on your side with the infected ear uppermost. drop 5 drops of oil (at room temperature) into the ear canal. Stay lying down for 5 minutes then wipe away any excess oil. Do not put cotton wool in your ears.
Repeat the procedure with the other ear if required.
Repeat this procedure morning and evening at least 5 days prior to syringing.
Before seeing the Nurse you will need to complete a consent form which is obtainable from the Reception of the Surgery on the day of your appointment.
